TVA Exam Detail

TVA exams are planned to be conducted on 11-May-2019.

- TVA Basic is for Nilai 3 students 
- TVA Intermediate is for Nilai 5 students
- TVA Advanced is for Nilai 7 students

 

Valluvan Tamil Acadamy needs to send all completed applications with fees by 10th April. Otherwise, TVA has enforced $5 late fee this year. Hence 31st March is the final deadline for parents to turn in the applications/fees. TVA has communicated strict requirements from last year. So we will enforce the deadline, otherwise it will be difficult for us to send the forms to TVA on time. 
 
Below tasks needs to be done by parents by 31-March.
 
1] Fill in TVA form online and get Student ID. (Students who have already appeared for Basic exam can use the old registration id and update the form) 
2] Download paper application, fill in and affix photo
3] Attach two evidences for the name - (One id will be provided by VTA and the other can be from the county school. Do not provide passport or other sensitive documents)
4] Provide $20 check towards "Valluvan Tamil Academy"  (Many parents had done mistake here in the past so please note this. Please reinforce that the Check should be towards Valluvan Tamil Academy)
 
Once all forms/fees are collected, VTA then needs to do the below by 10-April.
 
1] Consolidate list of students with their Student ID provided by parents
2] Inform TVA to associate these students with our center
3] Mail application forms along with Cashier's check  to TVA by 10-April. 
 
So we request all parents to provide the needed information as stated above by March 31st 2019.

 

Tamil Virtual Academy Certificate Exams

Which entity offers this Certificate?

Tamil Virtual Academy (TVA) is an autonomous Institution, established by the Government of Tamilnadu. TVA aims at providing Internet-based resources and opportunities for the Tamil communities living in different parts of the globe as well as others interested in learning Tamil. TVA offers various Certificate, Diploma and Degree courses in Tamil Language.

What are the levels in the Certificate Exam?

The Certificate Courses in Tamil aim at providing the Tamil Language Skills envisaged in the Text books of Tamil Nadu Text Book Society (Govt. of Tamil Nadu, India) for use in classes 1-6 in the schools of Tamil Nadu. The certificate course is offered in 3 levels:
- Basic Level (classes 1 & 2)
- Intermediate Level (classes 3 & 4)
- Advanced Level (classes 5 & 6)

Who is eligible?

There is no entry requirement or age restriction for admission to the Certificate Programme. However, based on the syllabus, it is recommended that students who have successfully completed Nilai 2  can appear for Basic Level Certificate and those who have successfully completed Nilai 4  can appear for Intermediate Level Certificate.

What are the benefits?

The course is based on the syllabus approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu and is modelled on the syllabus of Tamil Nadu State Board for Secondary Education. The certification will help the children to achieve the same level of proficiency as they could achieve by learning Tamil as a school subject in India.

Role of Valluvan Tamil Academy

Our volunteer teachers prepare the students to achieve the Basic and Intermediate level certifications through our academic activities. Valluvan Tamil Academy is an authorized TVA contact center for the preparation and exams.

Is there a fee for the course or exam?

TVA charges an exam fee of $15 and an additional administrative fee of $5 is charged to conduct the exam at the Valluvan Tamil Academy (Total fee $20).

How many students passed from Valluvan Tamil Academy

Over the years, many of our students have passed the Basic and Intermediate level exams.

Certificate Exam dates and testing sites

Exams are generally conducted every year in the month of May. For Valluvan Tamil Academy students, the exam will be conducted at the regular Tamil school location.

What language proficiency is expected?

Basic language proficiency such as correct pronunciation, writing words and sentences would be required. The proficiency should be similar to the Nilai 3 (Basic Exam) or Nilai 5 (Intermediate Exam).

What are the other Advanced courses offered by TVA?

- Higher Certificate: Grade 1, Grade 2  and Grade 3 (Equivalent to classes 7 - 12)

Credit Exam dates, times, and testing sites

Students must meet with their school counselors to register. Registration opens during September and closes around October. Exam will be conducted at counties selected school location.

What language proficiency is expected?

Students must be able to read and comprehend exam instructions and writing prompts in the exam language. They must be able to write two well-developed essays in the exam language, each consisting of at least three paragraphs, using complete sentences in cohesive paragraphs on a variety of topics and personal experiences.

What are the world language requirements for the Advanced Studies Diploma?

In order to earn the Advanced Studies Diploma, students must earn three credits in one world language or two credits in each of two different world languages. The credit exam addresses the second option because students who pass earn two world language credits equivalent to Levels 1 and 2 of the exam language.

How many times may a student participate in the exam?

A student may participate in the exam twice between grades 7 through 12. In other words, students who are not successful the first time may try once more.
